New pension system: where are we now and what is useful to know?
The law took effect on 1 July: the new pension system is on its way. That means that your pension scheme is going to change. Our intention is to make the change on 1 January 2026. We are working hard to make that happen. Suzanne van Kooten and Hans Veltman will bring you completely up to date in 10 minutes. You can watch the video presentation below.
We are developing the new pension scheme step by step
The Netherlands Bank and the Dutch Authority for the Financial Markets (AFM) support the pension funds in decision-making and developing the new scheme. The first calculations are also being made to determine how the transition to the new scheme will affect everyone. The first insights will be available in September.
Viewing tip: 11 October: webinar
Set the early evening of 11 October in your diary for the webinar about the latest news concerning the new pension scheme. We will also be doing a deep dive into the implementation of the new Pensions Act. You will receive an invitation as the date approaches.
Decisions have to be made concerning:
- Type of pension contract
- The new pension scheme
- Converting from the current to the new scheme (onboarding)
- Amounts and agreements concerning compensation and possible buffers
- Quality of the participant data
- Equitable distribution of benefits and costs (balanced distribution)
Direct or indirect influence?
The employer and the works council of TNO are the social partners: they decide together on matters concerning the contents of the new pension scheme. The Accountability Body and the Board of Directors have an advisory role. In addition, the pension commission of eTNOs is being informed and eTNOs themselves have a right to be heard. Those channels are the possible ways for you as a participant and eligible pension recipient to have direct and/or indirect influence on the process. If you are an employee of one of the affiliated companies (other than TNO), you can have indirect influence on the transition through your employer.
Important: e-mail address
You will not have to take any action yourself with respect to the new pension system. It is, nevertheless, important that the Pension Fund is informed of your active e-mail address. That will ensure that you receive all of the important information in your e-mail. That way, you ensure that you stay informed about important developments. You will also notice that there will be more communication about the new pension system. We hope to see you at the webinar on 11 October.
