Pension and tax: what is the current situation?

Wage tax and social security contributions as well as income-related healthcare contributions are deducted from your gross pension payment. However, a pensioner is exempted from almost all social security contributions, which is fortunate. For example, in the year you reach your state pension date, you no longer pay state pension contributions. You will also pay less tax from that year onwards.

I do not have a partner and/or child. Do I pay those pension premium regardless?

Yes, you automatically accrue partner and orphan’s pension. But if you have no partner and/or children before you retire or reach the state pension age, your partner's pension is automatically converted into additional old-age pension. This applies to the partner’s pension accrued after 1 January 2002. That’s when this scheme entered into force.

What happens to my pension if my partner and I separate?

On the website, we have listed the most important points for if you are getting divorced or ending a registered partnership. If you are getting a legal separation but remaining officially married or a registered partner, this is legally considered the termination of your partner's pension rights. The pension entitlements for you and your partner will then be automatically adjusted with us.
